I agree, I am homeschooling a 4yr. old, and they generally aren't ready to sit down and concentrate.
They are still classifying things in their little minds.
You can take something that they really like ( animals, shapes, colors, counting), and constantly associate those things with the activity they are currently working on.
Excitement when they complete a task, such as high-fives, "Alhamdulillah", "Masha Allah", "Look how smart you are Buddy!", and "Wow! you have a super brain!", tends to motivate the child to work a little harder, although at 4yrs, not very much harder! lol.
