Cartoon row

Peaceful rally

Good ol' Ken

Zaytuna speak out

OK. Now stop. I think the world *gets* it already - cartoons were racist and insulting, defamatory and hurtful... blah blah.

Move it along people... nothing to see, here...

I am living in Denmark at this point in time (long story, am hoping to be able to come home at some point..but I cannot yet). I have to be really careful about what I say about what it going on here, because I wouldn't want to offend the sweet Danish people I do know here. And there are so many gorgeous understanding people here. But I just have to tell you that I well know the 'type' that wrote the cartoons and published them..and they are offensive..(generally) and this type are also naïve and very backwards as far as their education goes. Unlike England, Danish schools do not recieve education about different cultures or religions as a rule. This is a heavily protestant culture and for reasons I cannot yet understand, the general populus has a problem on ground level about coping with the mere idea of other cultures living alongside their own. Us that hope in Denmark, hope for a change and a greater understanding and respect. Some things have to be learned. I am cringingly appalled at what has happened, but I hope for all our childrens sake that everyone works this out peacefully.
